The Service

Precise Openings. Executed Safely.

Cutting structural openings requires more than a powerful tool — it demands an understanding of load paths, structural behaviour, and the consequences of getting it wrong. At FB Coring Concrete & Demolition, we combine diamond-blade precision with experience on domestic and commercial projects to deliver clean, controlled openings every time.

Whether you need a new doorway cut through a solid concrete wall, a window opening enlarged in a brick facade, or an access point formed in a floor slab, we plan and execute the cut with minimal disruption to the surrounding structure. Every opening is measured, marked, and cut to exact specification — straight lines, clean edges, no uncontrolled cracking.

We work on residential extensions, commercial fit-outs, industrial facilities, and renovation projects throughout Kildare, Leinster, and beyond. If an opening needs to be formed, we have the equipment and the expertise to do it right.

Where We Form Openings

From residential extensions to commercial fit-outs, structural openings are required across a wide range of building types and project types.

New Doorways
Cutting new door openings through load-bearing or partition walls in concrete, block, or brick construction — precise dimensions, clean edges, ready for lintel fitting.
Window Openings
Enlarging existing window openings or cutting new ones in walls for improved natural light, ventilation, or architectural changes during renovations and extensions.
Ventilation Openings
Forming ventilation openings in walls, ceilings, or rooflines for MVHR systems, extract fans, mechanical ventilation, or passive air circulation requirements.
Floor Openings
Cutting openings in concrete floor slabs for staircases, service penetrations, hatch access points, drainage drops, and structural alterations between levels.
Electrical & Service Boxes
Precise recessed openings in walls and floors for distribution boards, consumer units, junction boxes, and service access panels in concrete or masonry substrates.
Structural Alterations
Openings as part of larger structural alteration projects — knocking through walls to open plan layouts, creating double-door access points, or modifying existing openings in size.
Why It Matters

The Benefits of Specialist Opening Work

Diamond-Blade Precision
Diamond wire saws and disc cutters produce surgically clean lines — no overruns, no chipping, no cracking beyond the cut. Your opening is exactly where you specified it.
Minimal Structural Disturbance
Controlled cutting preserves the integrity of adjacent structure. We do not use percussive methods that transmit shock and vibration, reducing the risk of collateral damage.
Dust-Controlled Process
We use wet-cutting methods with integrated water suppression and on-site dust extraction, keeping the site clean and protecting the health of occupants and tradespeople.
Lintel-Ready Finish
Cut edges are clean and straight, requiring no secondary preparation before your lintel, frame, or casing is fitted. The opening is ready for the next trade the same day.
Domestic & Commercial
From a single new doorway in a Kildare bungalow to multiple access openings in a commercial fit-out, we have the experience and equipment to handle projects of all scales.
Clean Site, Every Time
We manage waste from cut sections and slurry on site and leave the work area in a clean, safe condition. The project stays on programme and the site stays organised.
How We Work

Our Opening Process

Every structural opening project follows a structured process to ensure accuracy, safety, and a finish that's ready for the next stage of your build or renovation.

01
Site Assessment
We assess the wall or floor construction, identify reinforcement locations with a rebar scanner, confirm dimensions, and review any structural engineer drawings provided.
02
Mark & Set Up
Opening perimeter is marked precisely. Equipment is positioned and anchored. Water suppression is set up and work zone is protected to contain dust and debris.
03
Cut & Extract
Diamond disc or wire saw cuts the opening to exact dimensions. The concrete section is extracted in controlled pieces — safely lowered or supported where required.
04
Clean & Hand Over
Edges are dressed, slurry is removed, and the site is cleaned down. You receive a clean, dimensionally accurate opening ready for lintel fitting or framing.
Why Choose Us

Why FB Coring for Structural Openings

01
Precision Is Non-Negotiable
A structural opening that's 20mm out of square causes delays across every subsequent trade. We measure twice, mark precisely, and cut exactly to specification. Every time.
02
Experience Across All Wall Types
Solid concrete, hollow block, reinforced concrete, brick, and mixed-construction walls each behave differently under the saw. We have the experience to adapt and deliver a clean result regardless of substrate.
03
Safe Where Others Are Not
Percussive demolition near an occupied building carries real risk. Our diamond-cutting approach eliminates uncontrolled cracking, vibration transfer, and the structural disturbance that comes with less controlled methods.
04
On Time, Site Ready
We understand that a structural opening is a critical-path item on your programme. We arrive when scheduled, work efficiently, and leave a site that is ready for the next trade without delay.
05
Kildare-Based, Ireland-Wide
Based in Kildare Town, we work across Co. Kildare, Dublin, Wicklow, Laois, Meath, and throughout Leinster. Fast response, local knowledge, no inflated call-out charges.
FAQ

Common Questions

For any opening in a load-bearing wall, we strongly recommend obtaining a structural engineer's assessment and specification beforehand. We are happy to work from engineer's drawings and will flag any discrepancies we observe on site. For non-load-bearing partitions, an engineer's sign-off may not be required, but always check with your architect or building control officer.

A standard door opening (900×2100mm) in a 150–215mm concrete or block wall typically takes 2–4 hours from set-up to clean-up, depending on wall thickness, reinforcement, and site conditions. We always provide a realistic time estimate before starting so you can plan your programme accordingly.

Yes. Our diamond-blade equipment is specifically designed to cut through reinforced concrete, including heavily reinforced sections. We scan for rebar positions prior to cutting and our cut plan accounts for reinforcement to maintain structural integrity while achieving the exact opening dimension required.

Our diamond cutting process uses water suppression as standard, which significantly reduces airborne dust compared to dry cutting or breaking. We also use dust extraction equipment and protect the surrounding work area. There will be some slurry and debris from the cut sections, which we manage and remove as part of our clean-up process before leaving site.

Yes. We extract and break down the cut sections on site and can arrange removal as part of our service. For large or heavy sections, we plan the extraction sequence before cutting to ensure safe removal — including temporary propping where required.
